Assemblyman Colton continues his fight to restore NYC school cuts

Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Dyker Heights) continues his fight to restore NYC school cuts that were passed by the City Council budget back in June of 2022.

“It’s great news that the city council on Tuesday passed a resolution to restore $469 million in funding for city school cuts. But the resolution that the city council passed is nonbinding and won’t force the administration to restore the cuts. The city administration announced a package of $150 million in additional support for schools but it’s only 25% of what was cut. Where is the other 75% that our schools need now? Therefore, on the first day of school I together with my staff members visited various schools like P.S. 247, P.S. 95, P.S. 229, P.S. 128, P.S. 163, P.S. 97, P.S. 101, P.S. 177, and circulated petitions to restore school cuts. Additionally, I strongly urge all parents to step up and fight these cuts for all students in NYC public schools,” Colton stated.

“I demand that Mayor Eric Adams and Schools Chancellor David Banks reverse the budget cuts to schools and that the historic state school budget aid must reach our classrooms. These monies should be used to establish a plan to reduce class size and expand gifted class programs as well as remedial programs in all our schools. The fight is far from being over. Our children are our future and they deserve the best education, Colton added.
